What is lay mro?

Lay Mro, also known as the Kuko Thet - a sub-group of the Mro ethnic group, is an indigenous community residing in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh. They have their own unique language, culture, and traditions that distinguish them from other ethnic groups in the region.

The Lay Mro people mainly rely on agriculture, hunting, and gathering for their livelihood. They are known for their traditional farming techniques and cultivation of crops such as rice, fruits, and vegetables. Hunting and gathering also play a significant role in their subsistence activities.

The Lay Mro community has a strong sense of cultural identity and pride in their heritage. They have their own traditional music, dance, and art forms that are passed down through generations. The community also practices animistic beliefs and customs related to nature and spirits.

Despite their rich cultural heritage, the Lay Mro community faces challenges such as marginalization, land disputes, and lack of access to basic services such as education and healthcare. Efforts are being made by government and non-governmental organizations to address these challenges and promote the well-being of the Lay Mro people.
